Audition Music and Scene Readings for Bye Bye Birdie, Young Performers’ Edition

  • Do not stress out about these audition pieces! This is supposed to be fun!!

  • If you run into ANY issues or are confused about anything, please do not despair! Just reach out to Director Heather Felker at heatherefelker@gmail.com and she will be happy to walk you through it or get you access to the music or scenes if you are having trouble.

  • To prepare for auditions, you must select ONE of the four songs list below AND one of the scene readings.

    • Regardless of what role you are interested in (lead, supporting, ensemble), you may select any ONE of the songs below to sing at auditions and ONE scene reading. The songs and scenes listed may be for different characters than you are interested in, but we are more interested in hearing you sing and read something you are comfortable with and that gives us the best sense of your voice, so listen to all the songs and check out the readings and see which options you think are the best fit for you and for your voice.

    • You MUST select one of the songs and readings below to sing at auditions. You may NOT select a different song from the show or any other song. All those auditioning for the show must sing one of the songs below and read one of the scenes.

    • There is no need to prepare more than one song or scene.

  • For whichever song you choose:

    • #1 is the sheet music

    • #2 is the full song so you can hear what the whole song sounds like.

    • #3 is the cut of the audition song with the guide vocals, so that you can learn/practice the music with the words.

    • #4 is the cut of the audition song without the words - the performance vocals track. After you have listened to and worked with #1-#3, practice the song to the track in #4, the track without the words. This is the track we will use at auditions.

SCENE READING

  • In addition to the vocal audition, we would also like to hear you do a short scene reading.

  • Choose and prepare ONE from one of the following three readings: CLICK HERE.

  • Memorization is encouraged, but not required! A physical copy of this list of readings will be available at the auditions, if you’d like to use it!

  • The purpose of these readings is for us to give everyone an opportunity, outside of their solo audition, to demonstrate their acting and stage skills! Bye Bye Birdie has many quirky, fun characters, and some of them don’t have solos, so this is a great chance for us to give our budding thespians a chance to shine! We realize that not everyone wants a speaking role or a bigger part, but we still would like to see everyone read!

  • We acknowledge that the part you pick for your reading may not be the part you are auditioning for! We picked three different kinds of readings, with three different types of characters. Choose one that you feel best demonstrates your acting ability and HAVE FUN WITH IT!
