BIPOC Application Assistance Program

VACT’s BIPOC Application Assistance Program provides mentorship and/or financial assistance to teens of color who have participated in VACT programs and are in the process of applying to and selecting postsecondary education, training, or trade programs.

To be eligible for this program you must be:

  • A high school student who identifies as Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color.

  • Planning to enroll in a postsecondary institution, training program, or trade program. Applicants from all fields of interest are welcome; participation in an arts program is not required.

  • A past participant in a VACT production or other VACT program.

To Apply:

  • Fill out this form or send an email to cedi@VACT.org indicating your interest in the program.

  • Our CEDI Chair will schedule a conversation with you to learn more about your goals, plans, and how we can best support you. During this conversation, we will discuss:

    • Your experiences with VACT and the role they have played in your growth

    • Your goals and aspirations for the program, training, or field you plan to pursue

    • The specific types of support that would be most helpful to you, such as application or audition fees, travel costs, equipment or materials, or guidance through the application process

Program Support

Selected participants may receive support in one or both of the following areas, based on individual needs:

Mentorship and Guidance

Participants will be paired with a peer mentor who will meet with them (virtually or in person) to provide support throughout the application and decision-making process. Mentors may assist with answering questions, offering insight into application timelines, sharing tips for selecting and applying to programs, and providing artistic support such as song selection, choreography feedback, or reviewing application essays. Costs associated with mentor time or services will be covered by VACT, up to $750.

Financial Assistance

Participants may also receive up to $750 to help offset their direct costs associated with applying to their chosen postsecondary institution, training program, or trade program. Eligible expenses may include, but are not limited to:

  • Exam registration fees

  • Application and/or audition fees

  • Travel expenses related to applications or auditions

  • Program-specific expenses such as equipment, musical accompaniment, or choreography support

The BIPOC Application Assistance Program is open each year from September through April and will remain available until all funds have been awarded. If you have questions or would like more information, please reach out to us at cedi@vact.org.
