Auditions for Check Please! Our Special Summer One Act


VACT is excited to announce auditions for a special summer one-act play, Check Please, to be performed outdoors at VACT!

A fast-paced, laugh-out-loud comedy that dives headfirst into the wild world of modern dating, Check Please follows a series of disastrous blind dates that go hilariously wrong. From awkward silences and over-the-top personalities to dates that spiral into the completely absurd, each encounter is more outrageous than the last.

At the center of it all are Guy and Girl, two hopeful romantics navigating a revolving door of mismatches in search of something real. Anyone who’s ever braved a first date will recognize the cringe, the chaos, and maybe even a bit of themselves. In the end, Check Please reminds us that finding “the one” isn’t always easy, but it’s always an adventure.

This special summer one-act will be presented July 23–25, outdoors at VACT.

Registration Information

  • Auditions: Friday, April 24 beginning at 6:30 PM

  • Callbacks (if needed): Saturday, April 25 at 1:00 PM

  • Location: Dee Baldock Performing Arts Center (VACT Building)
    103 Lincoln Street, Verona, WI

  • Auditions are open to actors who have graduated from high school and are age 18+ (as of audition date).

  • Actors must be available in person for both auditions and callbacks. No video auditions will be accepted.

  • Registration must be completed by 5:00 PM on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. No walk-ups or late registrations will be accepted.

  • Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

  • Please bring a recent photo (no larger than 4x6) to auditions.


Rehearsal Information

  • We will be casting approximately 14 actors for this production.

  • Rehearsals begin Monday, June 29

  • Rehearsal days/times: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, 6:30-9:00pm

  • Due to the condensed rehearsal process:

    • All lines must be fully memorized before the first rehearsal (this is required)

    • Only one absence will be permitted during the rehearsal period

  • Because most scenes involve only two actors, not all cast members will be called to every rehearsal early in the process.

  • Casting notifications will be sent via email no later than Monday, April 27, 2026

  • Actors will be asked to provide their own costumes from home for this production.


Dress Rehearsals & Performances

  • Dress Rehearsals (6:30-9:00):

    • Sunday, July 19

    • Monday, July 20

    • Wednesday, July 22

  • Performances (Outdoors at VACT):

    • Thursday, July 23 at 6:00 PM

    • Friday, July 24 at 6:00 PM

    • Saturday, July 25 at 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM

  • Actors must be comfortable performing outdoors.

  • In case of inclement weather, performances will be moved indoors.

  • All cast members must be available for all rehearsal and performance dates. No understudies will be cast.
