Auditions for Anything Goes!

Climb aboard for a tap-filled classic! Cole Porter’s hilarious musical comedy Anything Goes debuted nearly 90 years ago and was last seen on our stage in 1999. In this tap-dancing romp on the high seas, two unlikely pairs board the S.S. American  between New York and England and set sail for true love, a madcap group of passengers, and a boatload of comedic chaos. The 2022 revision includes familiar classics from the Great American Songbook such as “Anything Goes,” “You’re the Top,” and “I Get a Kick Out of You.” This musical will have you rooting for true love to win out in the end. It’s delightful, delicious, and de-lovely.

This production will feature an all adult cast and runs approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes with a 15 minute intermission.

Auditions are open to all adults age 18+ (as of the audition date)

Auditions will be held as follows

  • Callbacks by invite only, Thursday, October 30th:: Check in beginning at 6:00 pm, callbacks will begin at 6:30.

Location

  • All auditions will be held at the Dee Baldock Performing Arts Center (VACT Building) located at 103 Lincoln Street in Verona.

Audition Information

  • An online registration form must be submitted by Friday, October 24th, at 5pm. There will be no day-of, walk-up registrations.

  • Please record all known rehearsal conflicts on your online registration form. Because our rehearsal period is very limited, it is important to minimize any absences. We cannot accommodate regular late arrivals or early departures from rehearsals. You will be provided the opportunity at auditions to list any additional expected absences that may arise between registration and auditions.

  • Please bring a recent photo to the audition, no larger than 4 x 6.

  • We plan on selecting a cast of between 55-65 people.

  • If you are absolutely not available for one of the audition dates, an alternate video audition may be considered. You may request an alternate video audition by contacting Director Marcus Wisniewski at mjeffreywisniewski@gmail.com no later than Sunday, October 19th at noon.

  • VACT welcomes actors of every race, ethnicity, disability, age (minimum age requirement), gender identity, and body type, and strives to maintain an environment free of discrimination.

Audition Schedule

  • Auditioners should prepare a 60-90 second cut of a musical theater style song (ideally in the style of the show) that demonstrates their range and style. Auditioning with music from the show is discouraged.

  • Songs from the show will be used in the callback.

  • There will be an accompanist at the audition for those who wish to sing with piano. Please bring your own sheet music in a three ring binder with as few page turns as possible and any cuts clearly marked. All staves of music, vocal and accompaniment, need to be present. Please do not bring cut off copies for the accompanist.

  • If auditioners are comfortable operating a backing track ON THEIR OWN for their vocal audition, we will have a speaker set up for that purpose. The auditioner must be comfortable navigating the technology and the timing of the track without assistance from the production team.

  • No acapella singing will be allowed.

  • There will be two separate dance auditions for this production; one being required for all auditionees and a second optional tap focused audition for those interested in tap-dancing in this production. Please note that the tap audition is not mandatory to be cast in the production, but is required if you would like to be considered in the tap numbers. Please wear clothes and shoes you can move in. You are encouraged to bring your own tap-shoes if you are considering the tap audition. Tap shoes will not be provided for those that do not have them.

    • Our choreographer will provide an audition choreography INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO ahead of time for BOTH of the dance audition numbers. You will receive that video after 5pm on Sunday, October 19th, if you are registered by that date/time.

      • Those who register after that date/time will receive the video after 5pm on Friday, October 24th, when audition registration closes.

    • It is expected that you are AS FAMILIAR WITH THE DANCE ROUTINES AS POSSIBLE before coming to auditions. There will still be time for questions and review at the audition itself before performing the routines for the production team, but not much.

  • For those specifically interested in auditioning for the roles of Lord Evelyn Oakleigh and Erma, a reading from the script will be done at the time of auditions, likely following the auditionees singing audition. These specific readings will be provided by Sunday, October 26th.

Casting decisions will be made by email. Because of the quick turnaround between auditions and casting, casting decisions will be sent out no later than Saturday, November 1st.
