Policies
Fall Project - Director Selection - Children's Theater Project

Fall Project Selection
Adopted by the Board, December 8, 2003
  1. Proposals for directing a Fall show must be submitted by January 1 for that year's Fall show, and the Board will select a project at its first meeting after that date.  Please send Fall show proposals to the Board in care of the VACT president.
  2. The VACT policy that states a director may not cast himself or herself includes the Fall show.  However, the Board may make limited exceptions if it is in the best interest of the organization, and the director must request express permission from the VACT Board to do so.
  3. The Fall show is an independent project subject to the approval of the Board and not to the selection process as are Winter and Summer shows.
  4. Fall shows considered by the Board must take certain logistical challenges into account.  These concerns include set (storage and construction), space and building constraints, lighting considerations (since the lighting is usually set up for concerts at this time), and scheduling (stage and rehearsal space).
  5. Pre-casting of fall shows is permitted.  The proposal should indicate whether the show is pre-cast, and the Board will post that information when the show is selected.

Selection of Director for Summer/Winter Shows

  1. Applications for directing a Summer show must be submitted by November 1 for the following year's Summer show, and the Board will select a director at its first meeting after that date.
  2. Applications for directing a Winter show must be submitted by May 1 for the following year's Winter show, and the Board will select a director at its first meeting after that date.

    VACT SUGGESTIONS FOR DIRECTOR APPLICATIONS

When applying for a director position for VACT, these are some guidelines the Board will be looking for:

Please submit a letter to the Board of Directors, in care of the President, concisely summarizing:

    • Your experience in theater or other productions
    • Your overall design ideas (example: the theme you want the audience to go away with, technical design ideas, vision)
    • How you will prepare for the production
    • How you will organize the time of your production staff and rehearsals

If the Board has any questions or needs clarification from you, they will contact you directly.
