DIRECTOR'S NOTES

Twenty-five years ago, I had the pleasure of seeing "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" at its opening in London. The show has definitely undergone numerous changes. Originally, the Narrator was played by a man, there were no children, and the show was a series of production numbers loosely tied together by the Biblical story. Tonight, we offer you a new interpretation while paying homage to its illustrious history. We have focused on the story itself and all the other elements enhance its telling. Join the Narrator and Greek Choir as they take us back to the times of Canaan, to observe the trials and tribulations of Jacob's family. Sibling rivalry, conspiracy, and betrayal finally lead to redemption as the brothers come together to save Benjamin. This sets the stage for a joyous family reunion.
The efforts of many have gone into presenting you this story. Most are acknowledged within the program, but these next few influenced the direction of the show. I call them "creative consultants" and would like to thank Jamie, Missy, Dee, Deb, Marie, and Rick. It has taken a large staff of people to bring you this story and they have my utmost respect and gratitude. Thank you to Christine and Peggy for letting me change my mind all the time, and to Ann for keeping track. Thanks, Dee, for keeping me on a "need to know" basis and teaching me about communicating. I owe my wife, Barb, countless dinner dates and yard work hours! Thank you for indulging me. Thank you Jamie for the encouragement, the moves and the ideas. Thanks to the gang at the office for stretching time.
This show is truly community theater at its best. It would have been diminished with the absence of just one of the people involved. Please sit back, enjoy our story and thank you for spending "and hour or two" with us dreamers.
